Duty-free Shopping
Check out these places for some great deals:
- Pointe Seraphine
- JQ's mall
- La Place Carenage
- Hawanorra Airport
Most of the shopping venues are clustered near Castries, but you will find that other locations too have their own charming shopping areas. Castries market should figure prominently on your itinerary. Its decade-long history is one of the draws, but you will find some of the best spices, foods and souvenirs here. In contrast, the mall at Pointe Seraphine is new and sparkling, and will lure you with its beautiful perfumes, jewellery, crystal and china. Besides, you will find plenty of apparel, cigars and crafts from the region here. Another good place to shop is at Gablewoods, where you will get books and postage among other things.
Arts and crafts of the area can be bought and appreciated at La Place Carnage, Artisibits Gallery, Pointe Seraphine and La Toc Road. Take the family to the Choiseul Arts and Crafts centre to watch baskets being woven or go to Goodlands to see art being created from wood. The Caribelle Hilltop House is the perfect place to buy and see screen-print and batik work.
Combine shopping with some romancing at the Maurice Mansion Streetwalk. The town market here is along the water line and you can search for some unusual knick-knacks too. The Gros Islet north-end shopping area is equally romantic. Soufrarie's resort stores may turn up unique gift items. Specialty stores abound. For instance, you will find all you need for a good game of golf at the St. Lucia Golf and Country Club's Pro shop. If it's the mall experience that you crave, go over to the Rodney Bay Marina arcade - you can eat, visit the bank and shop for gifts and clothes (you may need to visit the bank again before you leave!).
